What does an A P Mechanic do?

As certified airframe and powerplant (A P) mechanics, we are responsible for maintaining the airframe and engines of aircrafts. We perform routine checks, identify and repair faults, and keep records. We usually work in hangars, repair stations, and on airfields. We use precision tools, as well as specific software and equipment, such as aircraft log manager. We may specialize in inspections, repair, maintenance, or specific types of aircraft.

Core tasks:

  • performing scheduled and unscheduled inspections, maintenance, and repair on aircrafts
  • ensuring parts, products and materials that are installed meet regulatory requirements
  • decision making regarding maintenance, sequence, and techniques, troubleshooting and discrepancy resolution
  • documenting discrepancies, troubleshooting, repair work, and corrective actions
