Alameda-Contra Costa Transit District was established by voters in 1956. In 1959 bond issues of 16,500,000$ enabled them to acquire a private company Key System Transit Lines. In 1960 AC Transit’s service started. The new transport fleet started with 250 new transit liner buses which extended services to the neighborhood by creating an intercity bus network and enhanced the bay bridge bus service. The 50th anniversary of AC Transit was in 2010. After that, they expanded their services and started using alternative fuels. They offer employee package including health insurance, dental and vision care, life insurance, pension plans, 457 Deferred Compensation Plan, Flexible Spending Accounts, Paid Vacations, Paid Holidays, Tuition Reimbursement, Employee Assistance Program, Free Transportation on AC Transit, Direct Deposit, and Federal Credit Union.
