Accel is a major venture capital firm that invests in individuals and their businesses from the beginning to the end of their development. Accel, formerly known as Accel Partners, is a venture capital firm based in the United States. Accel invests in startups at the seed, early, and growth stages. Arthur Patterson and Jim Swartz launched Accel in 1983. The firm's 'Prepared Mind' investment strategy was devised by the co-founders based on the Louis Pasteur statement 'Chance favors the prepared mind.' In December 2008, Accel announced a $480 million growth fund targeted on growth equity opportunities in information technology, the internet, digital media, mobile, networking, software, and services, in addition to its sustained investments in early-stage firms through the Accel early stage fund.
