Reporting to the Director, Retail Operations Accounting, the Manager, Operations Accounting will have oversight of the financial reporting and operational accounting processes of significant project/initiatives of the Retail business. Retail currently has 2 significant projects/initiatives in progress, Project Foundation (an SAP ERP implementation) and Digital (customer facing technology platform). In addition, this position will oversee policy & procedure development and communication to our field users and back office personnel. The Manager will have a strong aptitude for accounting theory, including application and impact of new accounting standards and excellent communication skills both in interactions with all levels of management and in developing effective reporting solutions. This role is responsible for preparing and reviewing monthly financial statements, compiling forecast and budget information, and ensuring compliance with tax, audit, capitalization and reporting. The position prepares monthly, quarterly, and annual reports for Finance Leadership which analyzes performance and outlines variances. This role is also responsible for leading and developing a team. WHAT YOU WILL DO: * Manage multiple finance processes and produce effective project management reporting for various audiences, including Retail Corporate, Senior Leadership and Retail Field Leadership * Manage month-end close process for all projects by ensuring accruals and month-end estimates are accurate and complete and analyzing monthly balance sheet and income statement account variances * Analyze costs, pricing, variable contributions, sales results and the company's actual performance compared to business plans * Review the reconciliation of various general ledger accounts * Review, recommend and implement best practices regarding policies and procedures * Promote and maintain an effective internal control environment in compliance with Nutrien's SOX requirements * Oversee operations of the department, set goals and objectives, and design a framework for these to be met along with providing work direction and guidance to the staff * Manage the preparation of the budget and forecast * Research emerging accounting and reporting issues to ensure company follows US GAAP and IFRS * Conduct performance reviews and evaluations for cost-reduction opportunities * Provide recommendations on process efficiency opportunities and potential processes for automation * Establish and maintain fiscal files and records for transactions in accordance with record retention requirements WHAT YOU WILL BRING: * Bachelor's degree with emphasis in Accounting * 7+ years' accounting and leadership experience * CPA Accounting designation desired * Working knowledge with ERP systems, knowledge of SAP is an asset * Experience in financial analysis budgeting, forecasting, and long-range planning * Leadership: ensure staff has sufficient guidance and support to perform job duties effectively. Align work efforts of group to meet Nutrien Ag Solutions objectives * Collaboration: Communicate with various stakeholders in the business to understand processes and extract required information * Problem solving: ability to delve into accounting practices and combine unique information from various groups to accurately measure and report on project performance * Influencing Others: Listen to feedback from Nutrien Ag Solutions (branches and corporate) and work to make improvements to meet stakeholder needs.
