Gregory A. Falls (1922-1997), the head of the University of Washington's theatre department at the time, created A Contemporary Theatre (ACT) in the summer of 1965. The theatre flourished in a former community hall at the foot of Queen Anne Hill until 1996, when it relocated to the historic Eagles Auditorium in downtown Seattle. ACT is a modern style of theatre that blends creative ambition with public participation. ACT envisions a future in which the influence of theatre contributes to a greater understanding of culture and humanity. ACT achieves its goal by presenting bold, contemporary work on stage, drawing on a diverse range of voices, engaging viewers, creating new works, and making art available to everyone.
