Headquartered in New York, Chicago, with offices in Los Angeles, and Orlando, the Performers' Equity Association is the labor organization that represents American actors and stage managers in the theatre. The Actors' Equity Association, which was created in 1913, represents over 51,000 professional actors and stage managers across the country. Equity's mission is to promote the art of live theater as an important part of society while also advancing the careers of those who work in it through negotiating salaries, boosting productivity, and giving a variety of benefits, such as health and pension programs. Actors' Equity is linked with FIA, an international association of performing arts unions, and is a member of the AFL-CIO. The staff is in charge of the Association's and its members' day-to-day operations.
