ACUSHNET COMPANY was created in 1910 as a firm called Peabody, Young & Weeks, but was shortly renamed after the town of Acushnet, Massachusetts, and the process of utilizing the Guayule shrub's sap to make rubber. Originally, the company processed rubber for sale to a variety of enterprises, notably the tyre industry. In the 1960s, the name of the corporation was changed to Acushnet Company. The corporate offices were originally located in Acushnet, Massachusetts, but were later relocated to New Bedford, Massachusetts, and then to Fairhaven, Acushnet is one of the world's largest golf equipment manufacturers. On each of the world's professional golf tours, as well as in on- and off-course golf shops, the company has the largest market share in shoes, balls and gloves.
