Position Summary:

Reporting to the JHHS Director of Admitting and Registation, the Admission Services Manager will be responsible for managing, directing, and monitoring all operational aspects associated with the daily operations within the admitting, proceduries/surgical, and emergency management registration areas. The incumbent is responsible for providing operational oversight, expertise to maintain a productive feedback loop Financial Clearance and Financial Counseling processes, and revenue cycle support related to admitting, registration and scheduling services.He/She is also accountable to daily work queue monitoring and event management updates as appropriate.

Critical to this position, the Admission Services Manager manages the insurance eligibility verification process in a complex multi-payer health insurance environment for patients prior to their surgeries and/or procedures. Duties include ensuring that the appropriate communication is maintained with physicians, clinical staff and verifying that all information is obtained in an effort to secure payment form the payers after surgery and/or procedure. In addition, he/she will provide management support and set the appropriate payment expectations for up-front collections from patients and their guarantors.

The incumbent will routinely interact with all Financial Clearance departments, Hospital Functional Units, Administrators, Clinic Managers, and physicians in regard to registration matters; conducting periodic reporting relative to the aforementioned operations, as necessary. The incumbent is also responsible for providing timely and appropriate feedback to all key stakeholders on operational outcomes and issues, and establishing and maintaining critical yet collaborative relationships with internal and external clients. He/she serves and protects the hospital community by ensuring adherence to professional standards, hospital policies and procedures, federal, state and local requirements, and Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organization (JHAHO) standards

This position is responsible for the development of new programs to improve the coordination and delivery of patient services, including registration and decedent affairs process workflows. The Manager supports the Director in developing strategies for operational improvement, assists with budget development, and departmental reporting. In addition, he/she will support the hospital Revenue Cycle Director with all work queue claims related to Admission Services.

Education:

Bachelor's Degree in Health Administration preferred or a related field or 15 years of managerial experience in business and/or healthcare industry.

Work Experience:
  • A minimum of seven years of progressive financial experience, hospital receivables management experience, and Patient Accounting System(s) within a medical center or health system.
  • A minimum of five years of direct management experience
  • Experienced in business office within highly motivated environment.
  • Experienced in using team building and quality management concepts to positively influence the work environment.
Licensure/Certification:

Successful completion of Organizational and Development Manager Cohort program within six (6) months of hire. Certification in various computer systems as necessary.

Knowledge/Skills:
  • Extensive knowledge of Federal and State Laws and Regulations relative to insurance eligibility and prebilling processes.
  • Knowledge of the health care insurance industry and extensive knowledge about healthcare reimbursement, healthcare entitlement programs, healthcare insurance and healthcare billing.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Command of analytical problem solving skills
  • Effective decision making ability with an empathetic temperament
  • Ability to mediate differences in a collegial atmosphere
  • Effective counseling skills with patients and families is a plus
  • Clinical cancer knowledge and experience is a plus
  • Excellent presentation skills
