What does an Aircraft Dispatcher do?

We, the aircraft dispatchers, have joint responsibility alongside flight captains for the security and flights’ operational control. We authorize, control, and regulate commercial flights as per company and government regulations to ensure and expedite the safety of flights. We work under pressure within a fast-paced environment and also in bad weather conditions. We make multiple rapid decisions related to flight regulations, safety, and the economy of operations. To carry on our responsibilities of schedule coordinators and meteorologists.

Core tasks:

  • evaluating and analyzing meteorological information
  • computing the required amount of fuel for the safe completion of flight
  • preparing flight plans
  • delaying or canceling flights
