About Aircraft Maintenance Supervisor

What does an Aircraft Maintenance Supervisor do?

Aa aircraft maintenance supervisors, we are responsible for the maintenance functions of an assigned aircraft. This means supervising day-to-day maintenance tasks on the aircraft, support equipment, and special tools. We usually manage all aspects of aircraft maintenance, ensuring safe and efficient delivery of duties. We supervise maintenance staff which involves people management duties such as reviewing employee performance, addressing personnel issues, generating assignments, etc. Ours is a mid-senior level role usually requiring FAA certification and several years of experience in aviation maintenance. We typically report to the Aircraft maintenance manager.

Core tasks:

  • managing all aspects of aircraft maintenance
  • supervising maintenance staff
  • performing scheduled/unscheduled maintenance, servicing, launch and recovery, corrosion control, and inspection
  • reviewing work orders regarding modifications and/or upgrades to various aircraft systems
  • determining feasibility and method of repairing or replacing malfunctioning or damaged components
  • repairing electrical wiring system and aircraft accessories, as required
  • providing guidance and instruction to team members concerning technical orders, checklists, and hazardous materials
  • maintaining equipment maintenance schedules and monitoring parts and supply inventories
  • providing employees with training
