Since the last 50 years, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is developing the safest and reliable air transportation system in the world. The FAA is working with federal and industry partners to develop a system that fully accommodates changing needs of businesses and customers in the 21st century. The FAA issues and enforces regulations and minimum standards for operating and maintaining aircraft wherein it operates a network of airport towers, air route traffic control centers, and flight service stations traffic. The FAA maintains systems to control voice and data communications equipment, radar facilities, computer systems, and visual display equipment at flight service stations. It registers aircraft and records documents of aircraft and administers aviation insurance programs. The FAA helps in developing aircraft, engines, and equipment and conduct aeromedical research and regulate and encourage the U.S. commercial space transportation industry. Atop, the company conducts research and develops systems for safe and effective air navigation and air traffic control.

Job Description

Responsibilities

Recognized as the principal expert for development of workable solutions for unanticipated situations adversely affecting operationally critical systems of the National Airspace System (NAS). This may be accomplished using innovative concepts and approaches for problems that have resisted earlier efforts at resolution. This individual has the authority to commit the necessary resources to accomplish the agency's mission. Works under administrative supervision.

Establishes and manages program goals and objectives; formulates project plans and presents them to upper management. Serves as a senior project manager or team leader for large challenging and complex work activities. Technical decisions are considered authoritative in his/her area of expertise. Develops, interprets, recommends changes, and has a broad discretion to ensure compliance with organizational objectives and policies. Identifies, procures, distributes and tracks resources needed to accomplish large work activities. Monitors and evaluates trend data on a nationwide basis to develop workable solutions for sustaining the NAS.

Works with customers at high organization levels both inside and outside the FAA to resolve complex issues to ensure the integrity of NAS. Represents the FAA as a senior technical authority for major agency activities, emerging technologies and customer concerns. Coordinates with multiple air traffic entities to shut down and restore facilities, systems and services to prevent activities from disrupting air traffic operations. Quickly resolves restoration problems with minimal impact to NAS.

Maintains the highest degree of technical knowledge on integrated systems within a broad area of expertise. Keeps abreast of changes in technology and the new systems coming online. Provides recommendations to senior level managers for enhancement of systems and air traffic operations.

TASKS

  • Implement airfield safety procedures to ensure a safe operating environment for personnel and aircraft operation.
  • Assist in responding to aircraft and medical emergencies.
  • Manage wildlife on and around airport grounds.
  • Coordinate with agencies, such as air traffic control, civil engineers, or command posts, to ensure support of airfield management activities.
