Alabama Agricultural and Mechanical University is a public, historically black, land-grant university founded in 1875 and located in Huntsville, Alabama. Alabama A&M University was founded by a former slave, Dr. William Hooper Council. The university is located in a suburban setting of 880 acres and the university’s academic calendar is organized into four colleges: College of Agricultural, Life and Natural Sciences (CALNS), College of Engineering, Technology, and Physical Sciences (CETPS), College of Education, Humanities and Behavioral Sciences (CEHBS), and College of Business and Public Affairs (CBPA). Dr. Andrew Hugine, Jr. is the President of the University. The university has an enrollment of 6,100 students and 800 employees. The university strives to promote the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development of students in all facets of University life. Alabama University is dedicated to providing a student-centered educational environment for the emergence of scholars, excellent thinkers, and leaders.
