The American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOS) is an orthopedic organization. AAOS provides education and practice management services for plastic surgeons and related health professionals, advocates for improved patient care, and promotes orthopedic science to the public. The college was established at Northwestern University in 1933. It is a non-profit organization that has grown into the world's largest medical association of musculoskeletal specialists. The college serves more than 39,000 members internationally. The members of the college are called researchers and are experts in osteoarthritis who are responsible for the diagnosis, care and treatment of musculoskeletal diseases. The scope of practice of orthopedic physicians includes diseases of the human bones, joints, ligaments, muscles and tendons. Researchers here must complete four years of medical school education and have at least five years of orthopedic residency approval. In addition, they must pass oral and written examinations, obtain certification from the American Plastic Surgery Council, and undergo a strict membership review process before entering. The American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons provides diverse employee benefits such as life and disability insurance, retirement plans, vision insurance, dental insurance, paid holidays, 401(K) plans, among others.
