America Online (AOL) and Delphi both began linking their proprietary e-mail services to the Internet in 1993 with @aol.com domain. AOL Mail (stylized as Aol Mail.) is a free web-based email service from AOL, a Verizon Communications business. With about 9 million members as of October 1997, AOL Mail was the world's largest email provider. AOL tried a new free webmail service for the public in 2004. AOL tried a new free webmail service for the general public in 2004, without requiring clients to subscribe to AOL. This was done to compete more effectively with MSN Hotmail, Yahoo! Mail, and Gmail. AOL has been completely free for broadband customers since August 2006. AOL Mail has 24 million users as of July 2012. It is a best mailing website in 54 languages that provide its users free spam protection, virus protection and Spell check while typing.
