The Appalachian Trail (AT) is a not-for-profit organization that was established in 1925. The Appalachian Trail Conservancy's main goal is to secure, oversee, and advocate for the Appalachian National Scenic Trail. In October 1921, regional planner Benton MacKaye opened up to the world about his proposition for 'An Appalachian Trail: A Project in Regional Planning.' With exposure from a New York paper reporter, he went through years working his organization of trail and government contacts from Washington to Boston. By March 1925, MacKaye had produced sufficient help—for a climbing trail to coordinate the Appalachian Trail Conference and present more explicit plans. They employ energetic experts with profound knowledge in humanitarian causes and pay them a boosting salary bundle.
