What does an Aquarist do?
As Aquarists, we are responsible for the care of fish and marine mammals kept in captivity. We focus on providing care for marine creatures and maintain a quality environment for animals to live in. We monitor water quality and temperature, clean tanks, design exhibits, and observe animal behavior. We restrain animals for veterinary treatments and quarantine sick animals. Breeding replacement stock for the aquarium and preparing meals for animals is one of our main responsibilities. We clean windows, vacuum sand, and remove decorations for cleaning. Working as Aquarists, we redecorate and ensure that exhibits and tanks are presentable and well-maintained.
Core tasks:
- prepare and dispense meals
- observe animal health
- maintain pumps and filters
