Arctic Cat was created by snowmobile innovator Edgar Hetteen in 1960 because of his takeoff from his last business, Polaris Industries. Arctic Cat developed into a significant producer of snowmobiles, watercraft, winter attire, and ATVs (all-terrain-vehicles). The organization was named 'Polar Manufacturing' initially. However, was changed to Arctic Enterprises, later. The organization manufactured its 1st snowmobile in 1960 & 1970, began the Boss Cat line. In 1968 a 15,000 sqft winter wear plant was opened in Rainy River, Ontario. Various boat makers, including Silver Line, Lund, and Spirit Marine, were purchased to endeavor to grow the organization. After getting bankrupt in 1982, it was reborn as Arctco in 1984 to proceed with the creation of Arctic Cat snowmobiles. In 1996 the organization changed its name to Arctic Cat. Over time, the organization has endeavored numerous new product offerings including snowblowers, 2-wheeled driving vehicles, generators, helicopters, smaller bicycles, and individual watercraft.
