The Career Center (TCC), a unit within the Division of Student Affairs, provides all Illinois students collaborative and innovative programs, services, and resources focused on career and professional development that educates and empowers them to become thriving professionals in the global community. The Career Center staff is committed to supporting students from all backgrounds and promoting inclusiveness on campus. Primary Position Function/Summary: The Assistant Director is a multi-faceted role that coaches students regarding preparation for professional school admission; develops and fosters relationships with admissions representatives and healthcare-related community agencies; and oversees the annual Graduate and Professional School Fair. In order to foster student success, the Assistant Director also develops programs and opportunities to enhance students exposure to careers in healthcare and connect them with experiential learning opportunities. The Assistant Director is passionate about interacting with students, thrives in a team environment, and is a relationship builder. The Assistant Director is part of the Health Professions and Graduate School team and works with a collaborative and innovative staff focused on career and professional development for students. Major Duties and Responsibilities: Direct Service to Students (50%) Advise and coach pre-health students as they explore, prepare for, and apply to health professions/programs, such as medical/dental/pharmacy school Develop and deliver workshops and programming for pre-health and graduate school-bound students Coach students one-on-one and in groups regarding career exploration and decision-making, preparation for professional/graduate school, and finding jobs and internships Outreach to diverse student populations and offices that serve underrepresented students Facilitate opportunities for pre-health students and student organizations to interact and engage with admissions representatives Community Engagement and Professional/Graduate School (30%) Develop, maintain, and actively cultivate relationships with local and regional organizations to develop opportunities for health-related experiential learning Oversee the planning and execution of the annual Graduate and Professional School Fair Serve as a resource for information on short-term health training programs offered at community colleges, hospitals, and health care agencies Organize and coordinate informational events and activities to connect students to representatives from health and graduate schools Supervision and Contribution to Unit Mission and Values (20%) Assess services and programs to determine student learning outcomes and facilitate continuous improvement Contribute to the design, creation, and maintenance of print and online resources Serve as a liaison to designated departments and offices, in order to maintain relationships with campus partners and better meet the needs of the students they serve Create and deliver presentations for a variety of audiences, including students, parents, campus partners and external colleagues Serve on The Career Center, Student Affairs and/or campus committees, task forces, work groups, and advisory committees Participate in professional development activities and associations Position Requirements and Qualifications Education Required: Masters degree Education Preferred: Masters degree in counseling, education, student affairs, human resources or related field Required Experience: 1 year of work experience, which may include time as a graduate assistant Experience that demonstrates understanding of diverse populations and knowledge of cultural differences Experience creating and facilitating educational workshops and/or delivering public presentations Experience that demonstrates ability to work in a collaborative team environment Preferred Experience: Experience in higher education, career coaching/advising, and/or working with college students Experience that demonstrates knowledge of admissions requirements and preparation strategies for graduate and professional programs Experience that demonstrates understanding of career and student development theory and practice Experience developing and maintaining professional relationships Desired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Excellent verbal, public speaking, writing, and listening skills with ability to clearly articulate thoughts and ideas Openness, inclusiveness, sensitivity to cultural differences, and the ability to interact with all people, understand individual differences, and relate with a diverse student population Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills with ability to exercise sound reasoning to analyze issues, make data-informed decisions, and overcome challenges Demonstrate personal accountability, effective work habits, and ability to handle multiple work priorities Ability to work within a team structure while leveraging the strengths of others to achieve common goals Ability to build and sustain relationships with colleagues and stakeholders SALARY: Salary will be commensurate with experience APPOINTMENT STATUS: Regular twelve month, 100% academic professional appointment PROPOSED STARTING DATE: As soon as possible after the closing date APPLICATION PROCEDURES: Please create your candidate profile at http://jobs.illinois.edu and upload your cover letter, resume, and names/contact information for three professional references by March 1, 2020.
