Description: University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign School of Music Assistant Director for Public Engagement The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign seeks an Assistant Director for Public Engagement to manage all public engagement programs and activities at the School of Music. The successful candidate will be responsible for Engagement programming coordination and management of the School''s portfolio of engagement activities. This includes managing staff, the School''s engagement budget, and planning long-term and strategically for the School''s youth and adult programs. The successful candidate will serve as the public face of the School''s engagement team, coordinating efforts with the School''s Director of Advancement as needed. Occasional travel for purposes of representing the School at various events and conferences may be required. Major Duties and Responsibilities: Engagement Programming Coordination Implement and manage the Schools flagship public engagement program, the Illinois Summer Youth Music (ISYM). This includes Arranging for and determining the compensation and work assignments of approximately 200 temporary hires. Developing a communications and marketing plan, working with the appropriate School and College employees to develop marketing materials. Managing logistics such as overseeing ISYMs events and activities, determining space and facilities needs and making the appropriate arrangements, arranging for housing, food, and evening activities, and training and supervising the counseling team. Work with faculty stakeholders as applicable in developing curricula. Developing and managing the ISYMs budget, managing the awarding of any scholarships and fee waivers for the program, and stewarding donors. Serving as a final point of contact for parents and other stakeholders. Engagement Management Manage the Schools portfolio of engagement activities. This includes Managing staff and the Schools engagement budget. Planning long-term and strategically for the Schools youth and adult programs, such as the Illinois String Academy and Piano Laboratory Program. Overseeing competitions as related to the Schools public engagement activities. Coordinating with other stakeholders, such as the Senior Assistant Director for Admissions, to ensure that public engagement programming and messaging supports the Schools recruiting efforts. Assessing outcomes of engagement programming, identifying areas for improvement. Assisting the Advancement staff as needed in alumni events. Public Relations Develop coordinated messaging for the Schools public engagement programs. Serve as the public face of the Schools engagement team, coordinating efforts with the Schools Director of Advancement as needed. This may require occasional travel for purposes of representing the School at various events and conferences. Qualifications The successful candidate must have a Bachelor''s degree in Music or a related field. An advanced degree in Music is preferred. One year of administrative experience in an arts-related field is required. Administrative experience in public engagement programming or programming for minors or young adults is preferred as is experience managing staff. The successful candidate should have well-developed written and interpersonal skills, the ability to work with students and parents from diverse backgrounds, and the ability to meet deadlines and manage competing priorities. Salary is commensurate with experience.
