I worked in the cnc department. The environment was oily, nasty, dirty, you breathe all kinds of vapors every time you open the doors on the machine after it cycles. You're breathing vaporized carbide, vaporized aluminum alloy, and, vaporized petroleum-based coolant. And the air conditioning system is recirculating these vapors. And you're working in this environment with no vapor mask. They have cooling fans in the ceiling that have to be cleaned twice a year so they won't catch on fire, because of the oil it collectsfrom the vapors being recirculated. I was there 7 years and the overtime was ridiculous. One year I had over 10,000 dollars in over time. The foundry plant had worse conditions than what I experienced! They had no air conditioning whatsoever, whatever the temperature was outside, especially in the summer months you could add 10 degrees to that on the inside. Over there in those summer months people would quit 5 to 10 at a time.

Pros and Cons
Decent benefits, decent wages, nothing to write home about!
Terrible working conditions, too much overtime, not much management to speak of, no chance to advance
