Atypon was created in 1996 with the aim of democratizing scientific research by making it more widely available. This meant providing scholarly publishers with the tools they needed to succeed in a new—and sometimes intimidating—digital world. Literatum, the online publishing and website development platform, was launched in 1999 as a result of Atypon's initial development efforts. What began as a five-person Silicon Valley technology startup has grown into a powerful multinational corporation with over 480 employees spread across nine offices in the United States, the United Kingdom, Jordan, the Czech Republic, and Georgios' home country of Greece.
