The pay rate is awful and raises are insulting. No matter how hard you work, it is never enough. Retail in general is a difficult career choice because of the ever changing schedule, however there are companies that value employees and make the employees feel valued and appreciated. Barnes & Noble is not that type of company.

Pros and Cons
Discount on books but can't afford them bc of pay
Terrible pay, terrible, ever changing schedules, demeaning management

Pay is sub optimal but it’s not nearly as stressful as fast food jobs, so the trade off is there. 100 characters

Pros and Cons
Very chill environment. Many regulars come in and they’re normally nice
Low pay is the only issue I personally had

Barnes and noble in terms of the actual work, I actually enjoyed it a lot most of the time. Sometimes you'd get a semi-rude customer, some technical difficulties, but usually it's just stocking/organizing books, helping customers find what they need, and sometimes helping in the café. However the managers I don't think were the most fair with salaries and schedule accommodations.

Pros and Cons
Mostly fun duties, fun calming environment, decent customers.
Not great pay, needs better schedule accommodations, strict managers.

A lot of 4 hour shifts. Constantly running out of supplies as well as dealing with looking like a Starbucks but not actually being one creates endless confusion with the costumers trying to use the Starbucks app or ordering things we did not carry. at this specific location we were expected to clean clean clean and it was never good enough. it was never good enough because they need to shut down and remodel everything is disgusting their are cockroaches everywhere, in visible sight of the customers and to management but they never actually take it seriously. Two of my managers as well as a bug exterminator thought it was safe and not a health code violation to put bug poison inside of the espresso machine that was infested with cock roaches. which at that point was when I knew I had to leave. on top of the endless other issues all stemming from management including threatening us over keeping tips that customers insist on you taking for feeling bad we weren't aloud to except tips.

Pros and Cons
discounts on their over priced everything
nothing is up to health code standards

Poor management. Lack of trust from upper management and C suite. Toxic culture from a few ‘lifers’. Lack of innovation. Lack of creativity. Some really stellar, smart people still work there, but their talents are wasted.

Pros and Cons
Working in NYC, some good people remain there
Just about everything.
