Just don't do it. The higher-ups don't value anyone's time, talent, skills, or hardwork. They will slave you for real.

I worked for Bed Bath and Beyond for 13 years and I started at $8.50/hr. When I left, I was making a little over $12. They don't offer competitive pay to match other retailers.

With the exception of the General manager, most supervisors were very critical of things done wrong or a slight mistake. Employees were expected to know and understand procedures and processes that they weren’t trained to understand. Put downs, yelling and punishment were common place. A supervisor told me that since sandwiches were provided, I had to earn that by cleaning the toilets. Same supervisor was extremely loud rude and aggressive to cashiers as well as customers. There were many complaints about her but no accountability or consequences. The store was closing and being liquidated. The last week I was there, I was made to scrub the hardwood floors with a small sanitizing cloth on my hands and knees while said supervisor stood over me telling me I was doing it wrong. I was sweating profusely and breathing heavy and doing my best. She seemed to relish this. I have never worked around such hateful and mean spirited women. If I could find a way to report and file an abuse claim...

Came into the role with high expectations and was disappointed with lack of coaching, mentoring and overall regional leadership. Initial training in MI was decent although the regional management staff and RVP were arrogant and dry, not to mention their process and procedures are very antiquated, paper based and unrealistic. Corporate office in NJ practice white ivory tower syndrome and don't allow stores to operate independent of one another as they love to claim. The GOT A PEN culture is a joke and it shows from CS. HR is process driven and lacks strategic leadership from corporate and regional directors. Good ole boy network exists at the district manager and staff level, benefiting those that play to self-serving interests. They love to place employees on PIPs to terminate, not to improve performance. They set unrealistic expectations and do nothing to providing coaching. This explains why less than 5% are retained.

Thank god this store closed down! The management was awful, they have the most sneaky and unfit people running it. Sexist management made working awful since the women only got reprimanded for not wearing the right clothes on certain days. DO NOT WORK FOR THIS COMPANY, THEY DO NOT CARE ABOUT YOU!!!
