Benton County is among the 36 counties in the United States of Oregon. Having a population of 85, 579, its county seat is Corvallis. It was named after a U.S. Senator, Thomas Hart Benton, who supported American control over the Oregon Country. The county is governed by Republican Party and is one of the two counties in the Pacific States to be held by Herbert Hoover. It is home to Oregon State University and is well-known for agriculture, lumber, wood products, and some printing technology research.
