The Bethesda country club purchased the existing location from the Washington aviation country club in 1947, and thus started its historic history. The 156-acre parcel was sold for $360,000 and included a clubhouse, two tennis courts, and a nine-hole golf course. The 81 founding members of bcc embarked on the historic road that led to the wonderful club that exists today. The original place of the site was purchased by the Montgomery country club in 1913. The national women's country club, a prospering and highly respected club, was converted from Montgomery country club in 1929. First ladies, social figures, and dignitaries from throughout the country were among the members. It was purchased by the Bethesda country club corporation two years later, in 1947, and joined the ranks of other elite clubs in the Washington metro area.
