Position Summary:
The Department Technician in Academic Development provides excellent customer service to Adult Basic Skills (ABS)/General Education Development (GED) and English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) students enrolled in federally funded Title II programs, Integrated Education and Training (IET), or career pathway cohorts; offers clerical and office support to administrators and faculty in the Academic Development Department; collaborates with a team to help foster overall student success.
Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Functions:
Customer Service
* Provides college, department, and project information in Spanish and English to staff, students and the public over the phone and in person, including mono-lingual Spanish speakers
* Determines if referral is appropriate and directs to resource person as needed; conducts follow-up calls to applicants
* Provides information or services to appropriate staff according to program guidelines; provides reception coverage
Data Integrity Maintenance
* Enters and maintains various forms of confidential data and records into databases
* Administers, proctors, and facilitates the computerized test-taking process per established guidelines
* Supports in the collection of data from multiple sources and the production of reports and materials related to that data
* Supports onboarding and advises part-time staff on project record keeping and recording procedures
Department Clerical Responsibilities
* Prepares, proofs, and types letters, reports, correspondence, forms, promotional materials, and other documents in a prescribed manner; prepares packets for mailings, oral or written instructions or transcriptions in both English and Spanish
* Acts as liaison between staff and other departments
* Maintains office filing systems and statistical records and reports systems; transcribes data into computerized database files
* Orders and maintains office supplies and materials inventory
* Performs cashiering duties
* Participates in registration and orientation activities

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED)
* AND-
Two years of clerical record keeping and/or customer service experience; experience working with diverse groups (i.e. marginalized, economically disadvantaged, neuro-diverse, second language learners, culturally distinct, gender differences, individuals with disabilities)
* AND-
Bilingual Spanish
* OR-
Associate's degree from an accredited institution
* AND-
One year of clerical record keeping and/or customer service experience; experience working with diverse groups (i.e. marginalized, economically disadvantaged, neuro-diverse, second language learners, culturally distinct, gender differences, individuals with disabilities)
* AND-
Bilingual Spanish

Terms of Employment:
* This is a 100%, 11-month classified assignment of the B1 band and grade
* Requires flexible work schedule to meet program needs, which may include evenings and/or weekends
* Requires the provision of official transcripts upon hire
* Upon hire, must pass security inquiry which may include criminal history; only information relevant to the position will be considered
