Black & Veatch was my employer for almost 12 years. Started out as a telecom construction manager and from there moved into a quality manager role. I was then made the West Regional and later became the East & West Regional Quality Manager. The company has since sold it's telecom division to another vendor. While at Black & Veatch it was a great place to work.

Pros and Cons
Employee owned company with great benefits.
The company sold it's public telecom infrastructure.

Culture and Values
I'm all for sticking to what works, but sometimes it felt like we were stuck in the Stone Age at Black & Veatch. There was a resistance to change and innovation that held us back from reaching our full potential. It was frustrating to see opportunities for improvement ignored time and time again.

Pros and Cons
The company provided several commission opportunities.
Trying to introduce new ideas felt like banging my head against a brick wall.

The key is "how" you implement change. I don't discount the culture and your leaders. When you try to change how people have been doing things, you will meet resistance. What do you do to overcome that makes a difference between failure and success.
