About Bookseller

What does a Bookseller do?

As Booksellers, we are involved in the sale of books and associated products, combining a strong customer focus with a sound knowledge of their stock and the wider book sales to help customers locate particular books and offer information and advice about different books available. The Booksellers order and display stock and work with publishing companies and representatives, undertaking bibliographic work using computer or print sources to identify and locate titles, processing customer orders, and book reservations. We deal with mail order, email, and web-based orders – although this applies only in certain businesses, handling payments by cash, credit card, and using book tokens – in many shops, this will necessitate the use of electronic point of sale (EPOS) technology.

Core tasks:

  • create in-store and window displays
  • identify business and promotional opportunities
  • organize talks, signing sessions, and reading groups
  • review sales performance and meeting sales targets
