Education Corporation of America owned and operated Brightwood Educational, formerly Kaplan College, and a for-profit college system in the United States. Health, business, criminal justice, information technology, nursing, and professional training (trades) programs were among the main qualifications offered. Brightwood's parent company, Education Corporation of America, unexpectedly stated via email on December 5, 2018, that all of its schools will be closing in two business days. Staff was fired without providing the legally required notice. Kaplan College was a subsidiary of Kaplan Higher Education, which was acquired by Education Corporation of America (ECA) in September 2015. Education Corporation of America announced on December 5, 2018, that all Brightwood College campuses around the country would close owing to a loss of accreditation from the US Department of Education.
