Brookdale, situated in Brentwood, Tennessee, was founded in 1978. Fortress Investments became the primary owner of Brookdale in the late 1990s and early 2000s, owning around 51% of the company. Glenview Capital Management (a hedge fund) has the most shares at the moment. Brookdale employs about 70,000 people and has a population of 100,000 people. Brookdale amalgamated with Emeritus Senior Living in July 2014 to form the first national full-spectrum senior living firm, with over 1,100 locations in 46 states and 80 percent of the population of the United States.
