The Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) is a musical theatre venue in Brooklyn, New York City. Katy Clark has been Leader since 2015 and in 2019 David Binder became Art Director. It is regarded as a center for experimental and avant-garde performances. It displayed its first success in 1861 and started operations at its present position in 1908. It was also used for worship services in the 1900s. The building, designed by architect Leopold Eidlitz, contained a large 2,109-seat theatre, a smaller music venue, dressing rooms and chorus halls, and a large 'baronial' kitchen. The Brooklyn Academy of Music, an assortment of spaces, contains the 874-seat BAM Harvey Theater on 651 Fulton Street. Previously known as the Magnificent Theatre, it was established in 1904 with 1,708 seats and subsequently hosted vaudeville and eventually feature films, and was renamed in Lichtenstein's honour in 1999. The Academy is organized as a non-profit New York State organization.
