The Broward Sheriff's Office (BSO) is a full-service, nationally accredited public safety department with about 6,000 workers, including more than 2,800 licensed deputies and 700 fire rescue experts. BSO serves more than one-third of Broward County by providing full-time law enforcement services in 13 Broward cities and towns, as well as all of Broward's unincorporated areas. The Broward County Courthouse, the Ft. Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, the Everglades, and the county's waterways, including Port Everglades, are also protected by BSO. The BSO's Department of Detention and Community Programs oversees the county's four jails as well as offender programs such as Drug Court Treatment, Pretrial Services, county probation, Day Reporting and Reentry Division. The agency also handles 9-1-1 calls for the majority of the county's police and fire departments.
