The Brown School was established in 1925, and it was dedicated to Brown Hall in 1937. It was named after the founder of the Brown Shoe Company in St. Louis, George Warren Brown, and generously funded by a bequest from his widow, Betty Bofinger Brown. The department of social work became its own school in 1945, offering a Master of Social Work degree. It quickly started a graduate programme and became the first school to accept African-American students to Washington University. Via their path-breaking research and educational excellence, it is the institute's vision to generate meaningful social change. The Brown mission is to train and train future leaders in social work and public health in strategy, practise and academic sectors. For promising scholars, the Brown School offers diverse employment options. It also provides workers with various incentives, such as a work appraisal package, compensated leaves, a retirement plan, and medical and dental care.
