The National Museum of African American History and Culture'sprimary purposes are to acquire, maintain and preserve objects whichdocument social, cultural, political, military, technological andscientific developments in the United States related to the AfricanAmerican experience; to conduct research in the field of AfricanAmerican history, to publish findings for all audiences; andinterpret historical developments through public exhibits andprograms as well as digital content.

Incumbent serves as a Budget Analyst at the National Museum ofAfrican American History and Culture (NMAAHC) with responsibilityfor financial management, procurement/contract management andadministrative management. The incumbent reports to the SupervisoryFinancial Management Specialist in the Finance and Budget Unit inthe Operations Department, NMAAHC. Duties include:

  • analyzing and assembling data for the coordination, development,justification and submission of NMAAHC's annual trust andfederal budgets and five-year projections;
  • forecasting funding needs and cost trends and advising fundmanagers on the status of their funds and the availability offunding from various sources, notifying managers when funds arenearly depleted to eliminate deficit spending;
  • monitoring the budgeted trust and federal funds for the museumthrough communication with each departmental fund manager;
  • reviewing procurement documents and approving purchase orders,contracts, travel orders for obligation against approved funds;and
  • serving as approving official for the government-wide commercialpurchase card.

How You Will Be Evaluated

You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet thequalifications above.

Your application will be evaluated first for the basicqualifications described above. The applications that meet the basicqualifications will be evaluated further against the followingcriteria:

  1. Ability to maintain records and reconcile financial reports.
  2. Ability to identify, analyze, and resolve a range of financialproblems, such as the development of alternative methods offunding and formulation of financial estimates.
  3. Skill in using Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel and other softwareto maintain database and run reports.
  4. Knowledge of regulations governing purchase orders, contracts,and travel.
  5. Ability to communicate in writing for the purpose ofdisseminating information (e.g., financial discrepancies).
  6. Ability to communicate orally with a variety of individuals forthe purpose of disseminating information (e.g., financialdiscrepancies).
