The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is the agency inside the United States Department of the hearth accountable for administering federal lands which was established on December 10, 1946 with its headquarters based in Grand Junction, Colorado. It was fabricated by President Harry S. Truman by consolidating two existing agencies, the General Land Office, and the Grazing Service. The purpose of the BLM is to preserve the health, variegation, and richness of the public lands for the utilization and enjoyment of present and future generations and There are more than 63,000 oil and gas wells on its public lands and in 2013 its total energy leases generated approximately $5.4 billion. About 221 wilderness areas, 27 national monuments and some 636 other protected areas are managed by the Bureau of Land Management as part of the National Conservation Lands as the National Landscape Conservation, which totals about 36 million acres.
