About Business Development Representative

What does a Business Development Representative do?

As business development representatives, our objective is to generate revenue and expand market share for our organization by identifying and pursuing new business opportunities. We do this by generating sales initiatives and engaging with potential business partners. We execute on strategies of entering new markets or reaching existing markets in new ways. The exact nature of our job depends on the industry, but usually we attend various networking events, generate leads by cold-calling potential customers, or respond to incoming leads. Our performance is usually measured against monthly, quarterly, or annual sales volume goals.

Core tasks:

  • researching prospects and identifying new business opportunities
  • performing sales and marketing activities via various channels, articulating company’s value proposition
  • making product/service demos and presentations to potential clients
  • keeping records of outreach and prospect conversation
  • providing market feedback to management
