The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) is a government organization established in 1885. As California's fire department and resource management agency, its primary responsibility is to fire-protect and manage over 31 million acres of California's public and private wildlands. It also renders various emergency services in 36 of California's 58 counties. The Department's mission is to serve and safeguard the people, properties, and resources of California.
