Captains Career Course Small Group Instructor

Minimum Qualifications Summary

Certification & Education

  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university
Experience Required
  • Must have successfully served as a Company Grade Officer (Detachment Commander) within Army Special Operations (Special Forces, Psychological Operations, or Civil Affairs)
  • Must be Faculty Development Program I (FDP) qualified or willing to go TDY to become qualified
  • Must be physically able to conduct cardio and weight training with ARSOF Captains
  • Must be willing and able to travel TDY for engagements related to the course
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours in various garrison and field environments
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance
  • In accordance with Change 3 to AR 600-85, Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program, individual must successfully pass a urinalysis screening for illegal drug use prior to appointment and periodically thereafter
Job Objective

Special Warfare Education Group (A) (2SWTG) has an ongoing Human Resource support requirement for educational services in support of the Army Special Operations Forces Captains Career Course.

Responsibilities
  • Serves as instructor for the ARSOF-CCC. Develops and adapts new or revised training or testing materials for formal course use. Participates in planning, developing, evaluating, and revising curriculum.
  • Recommends scheduling of assigned lessons.
  • Updates lesson plans as changes occur that alter the method of delivery (for example, when computer-based instruction modules or interactive courseware replace classroom instruction). Follows lesson plans, deviating to relate to students with complicated, specialized learning difficulties, accommodate sudden changes in subject-matter area, or for other unavoidable circumstances. Plans and presents material in accordance with lesson plans and within the prescribed course framework.
  • Adjusts presentation or other instructional methods, to include adjustments to accommodate or resolve student and/or source material problems, last minute schedule changes, equipment malfunctions or lack of supplies. Utilizes training aids (training models and devices) to enhance training outcome. Participates in panel discussions, seminars, and conferences. Provides accurate, comprehensive, current and thoughtful information on assigned specialty area.
  • Maintains classroom decorum by acting upon distractions or disturbances. Reports student absence and tardiness.
  • Ensures teaching supplies, equipment and classrooms are available and operational at the allotted time. Introduces innovative and new approaches to established classroom techniques. Ensures students are knowledgeable of potential dangers from equipment and hazards. In cases where training equipment or information is very valuable or sensitive, ensures classroom procedures meet security and confidentiality standards.
  • Prepares and administers formal/informal tests or quizzes. Reviews them for accuracy and appropriateness of material coverage and student understanding of the material. Observes student classroom activities and participation. Provides guidance to students and student projects. Maintains attendance information. Counsels' students in the areas of performance, deportment, attitude or participation and completes appropriate form with recommendations.
  • Monitors and evaluates training effectiveness throughout course of instruction. Completes analysis of program effectiveness. Conducts task analyses for determining training requirements or in special staff studies of training and testing materials.
  • Member of teaching team and coaches' students by observing and mentoring, providing feedback, counseling with professional and personal development. Evaluates student learning.
  • Checks e-mail and respond. Develops and maintains professional development relating to all aspects of education and Army-related knowledge. Prepares reports on student performance tracking.
  • Encourages students to develop confidence to become learners that are more independent. Teach students skills in Army Common Core Program of Instruction (POI). Provides help to students so they may achieve academic success. Communicates effectively with students. Help students with the computers, study skills programs, creation of handout materials, and/or web site materials if assigned. Administers student evaluations during each course.
  • Attends staff meetings. Performs routine Army Common Core operational duties. Provides academic performance consulting to students. Consults with students on the use of student success skills e.g., as distributed learning (dL) applications, test preparation and note taking. Advises students on goal setting, cognitive control and stress management. Conducts educational workshops to Soldiers and focus on the education and acquisition portion of performance education.
