Caribou Coffee Company is a coffee company and coffeehouse chain based in the United States. Caribou Coffee was created in 1992 in Edina, Minnesota. As of May 2015, the business had 603 locations around the world. John Puckett, the developer of Caribou Coffee, was operating as a management consultant for Boston-based company Bain & Company, assisting other businesses create concepts and plans, when he decided to start his own business. Caribou employed over 6,000 people as of 2009. JAB Holding Group, a German investment firm, bought it for $340 million in December 2012. Caribou Coffee reported in May 2013 that 80 of its branches in Ohio, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Washington, D.C., Maryland, Virginia, Georgia, Illinois, and Eastern Wisconsin will close, with 88 others being transformed to Peet's Coffee & Tea during 2013–2014.
