Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) is a private research University worldwide. CMU is among the world's most renowned educational institutions. CMU is based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. CMU was founded by Andrew Carnegie in 1900. CMU was established as The Carnegie Technical Schools and later turned into The Carnegie Institute of Technology in 1912. Farnam Jahanian is the President of CMU. Seven colleges and independent schools come under the University. About 14,799 students from 117 countries count under the CMU. The University has over 109,000 living alumni and over 1,400 faculty members. CMU has a campus area of almost 140 acres. CMU is bordered by the campus of the University of Pittsburgh to the west. Carnegie Mellon has developed into an international University with over a dozen degree granting locations in six continents.CMU has been home to 12 Turing Award recipients. The alumni of CMU have received 10 Academy Awards and at least 137 Emmy Awards to date.
