Catholic Relief Services (CRS) was created in 1943 by the American Catholic Bishops to assist World War II victims in European countries. It spreads to over 130 million people in over 100 nations on five continents. Its mission is to help needy and deprived people abroad. Its actions help people based exclusively on necessity, irrespective of their religion, race, or ethnicity. As the authorized global philanthropic organization of the Catholic society in the United States, CRS is administered by a panel of executives including clergy, most of the bishops are chosen by the United States Forum of Catholic Bishops, as well as devout and Catholic nonprofessional men and women.
