About Certified Coder

What does a Certified Coder do?

We, the certified coders, are responsible to oversee the medical coding for healthcare organizations. We, the certified coders, make sure correct medical coding is used in compliance with every medical coding law and regulation and make sure the coding used is for all reimbursable expenses. We provide surgical and regular coding or hospital coding as deem fit. We are also responsible to communicate with patients regarding procedures or rejected claims.

Core tasks:

  • assigning abbreviated references in the form of predetermined codes and entering them into computer applications’ fields
  • processing insurance claims and billing and working with other coders
  • staying up to date on medical data that can help in the assignment of correct codes
