What does a Certified Hand Therapist do?

Certified Hand Therapists (CHTs) are specialized occupational or physical therapists who focus on the rehabilitation of patients with conditions affecting the hands and upper extremities. They utilize advanced therapeutic techniques to help individuals regain functional use of their hands after injury or surgery. CHTs often work with patients suffering from arthritis, carpal tunnel syndrome, fractures, and tendon injuries. They collaborate closely with surgeons and other healthcare providers to create comprehensive treatment plans tailored to each patient's specific needs. In addition, they educate patients on exercises, ergonomic principles, and preventive measures to avoid further injury.

Core tasks:

  • Evaluating and diagnosing conditions affecting the hands and upper extremities
