About Certified Surgical Technologist

What does a Certified Surgical Technologist do?

As Certified Surgical Technologists, we prepare and organize the operating room instruments, equipment, and supplies as required for various surgical procedures following the hospital’s guidelines and protocols. We set up a sterile and sanitary environment before, during, and after each operation with the utmost attention during the operation to avoid any contamination. We also move, transport, and position unconscious patients on stretchers or operating tables following the appropriate protocol. We ensure that the hospital’s machinery is correctly working, and place orders to purchase new ones if they are damaged beyond repair.

Core tasks:

  • monitor the equipment during the operation
  • correct instrument sets following the hospitals’ standards
  • use sterilizers and germicides to wash and sterilize the equipment

I have an Associates Degree of applied Science as a Surgical Technologist. I am not certified. I have been at my hospital full time for 23 years & have been paid extremely well. Everyone that graduated with me as stayed employed with no problem. I dont understand the above comments. The only reason I am currently looking is because I am looking for a change, like a surgery center.
