Based in Tahlequah, Oklahoma (the capital of the Cherokee Nation), Cherokee Nation is the largest among the three federally recognized Cherokee tribes in the US. Headquartered in the historic W W Keeler Tribal Complex, Cherokee Nation is the sovereign government of the people of Cherokee and has service facilities and sub-offices throughout the Nation’s 14-county area of jurisdiction. After the discovery of gold reserves in the United States, the Cherokee tribe was forced to relocate to the Indian Territory, or currently Oklahoma in 1838, from its initial settlements in regions of Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia, and North Carolina. Presently, the tribe is one of the largest employers in the state of Oklahoma, and also the largest tribal nation in the whole of the USA. The Cherokee National Government operates in the same way as the United States Government through three branches: legislative, judicial, and executive. The tribe’s official website lists comprehensive information regarding the services, government structures, employment opportunities, and more.
