About Child Life Specialist

What does a Child Life Specialist do?

As Child Life Specialists, we are healthcare professionals who help children and families at large cope with illness, trauma, injury or even disability. We provide information and guidance to the parents on how best they can support the child who is going through challenges in life. We collaborate with the healthcare personnel to manage and care for the child whenever any medication is needed. We also develop appropriate strategies to help the child minimize trauma and help the child understand the medical diagnosis through various treatment plans.

Core tasks:

  • provide guidance and counselling to the affected families
  • help children through medication process
  • educate families on how parents can help their children cope with what they are going through
  • collaborate with the healthcare team to manage care
