The children's Hospital of Philadelphia's primary campus is located in the University City neighborhood of West Philadelphia which is next to the campus of the University of Pennsylvania. The physicians of the hospital serve as the pediatrics department of the Perelman school of medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. The first location of the Hospital was a small building on Blight street consisting of 12 beds and a dispensary and today it is ranked number 1 in the nation by U.S News for three out of ten specialties and has 557 beds and more than one million outpatient and inpatient visits each year.
