Children's of Alabama has been providing advanced pediatric services for sick and disabled children since 1911. It is a private, non-profit medical center that acts as the university hospital for UAB's pediatric medicine, surgery, neuroscience, science, and residency programs. Children's Hospital of Alabama, ranked among the best children's hospitals in the country by U.S. News & World Report, treats patients from every county in Alabama as well as virtually every state. It is among the biggest pediatric medical centers in the United States, with over 3.5 million sq. ft. Children's Russell Campus on Birmingham's historic Southside has inpatient and rehabilitation care, with specialist services available at Children's South, Children's on 3rd, and in Huntsville and Montgomery. More than a dozen counties in central Alabama provide primary medical services. Children's is Alabama's first health organization devoted exclusively to the treatment and care of children.
