CITGO Petroleum Corporation is a refiner, transporter and merchandiser of transportation fuels, lubricants, petrochemicals, and further industrial products based in the United States. It was founded in 1910, headquartered in the Energy Corridor area of Houston and is majority-owned by PDVSA which is a state-owned company of the Venezuelan government. CITGO is an acknowledged leader in the refining industry and utilizes three refineries which are positioned in Corpus Christi, Lake Charles, and Lemont, III, and mutually occupies 48 terminals, ten pipelines and three lubricants mixing and packaging plants. The corporation employs approximately 3,400 employees and comprises a combined crude capacity of approximately 769,000 barrels-per-day. It is ranked as number fifth and one of the most complex independent refiners in the United States wherein a network of almost 4,700 locally granted and operated branded retail outlets are distributed by the corporation in 30 states and the District of Columbia.
