Cleveland, the county seat of White County, is located 75 miles north of Atlanta in upper east Georgia. Known as the 'City of Mountain Breezes,' the city stands 1,570 feet above ocean level. Initially called Mount Yonah when the region was as yet a piece of Habersham County, Cleveland was in the focal point of the gold-mining area. The town filled in as an intersection that associated the harsh streets and mountain trails driving east to Clarkesville, southwest to Dahlonega, south to Gainesville, and upper east to Nacoochee. In 1870 the name of the town was changed to Cleveland. The state delegate William Shelton suggested that the area seat be named Cleveland out of appreciation for his companion, General Benjamin Cleveland, a resident of Habersham County. The state follows an equal opportunity methodology and doesn't segregate on any social criteria, as its employees earn a good salary bundle.
